NO PROBLEM TOO BIG, NO PROBLEM TOO SMALL

We’re guided by a philosophy of active listening.

We experience so many significant events such as bereavement and loss, relationship difficulties, depression and anxiety. Sometimes we question who we are, how we are feeling or feel a need to move on from events in our past. These are some of the reasons for seeking therapy.

Our Philosophy

At ACTS we are interested in listening to you, trying to help you peel back the layers to understand how past experiences, often from childhood, affect your life today and the way you view yourself.

Although the past cannot be changed, a therapist can help you think in a different way about your past, present and future.

We are also passionate about changing the narrative around phrases such as 'man up' and 'boys don't cry' which instill in men a belief that they should not share their emotions, subsequently impacting their physical and emotional wellbeing. We want to enable men to explore and understand their thoughts and feelings and know the power of being vulnerable

Sue - ACTS Founder

I have a Diploma in Integrative counselling and Psychotherapy. This was a two year classroom based course with a 100hrs clinical placement.

Prior to training as a BACP therapist I worked in both secondary and primary education, supporting families and students who found themselves in difficult circumstances. I also worked in a local authority drug and alcohol support service. I have supported families experiencing domestic and honour based abuse and I am a Safe Lives accredited Young Persons Violence Advisor (YPVA).

I have also worked for many years with young men. I am passionate about men finding their voice and understanding their emotions. So many young men struggle with talking about their emotions and I have seen first hand the impact of men remaining silent. I want to help change this culture.

I have lived in the UK and Germany, so I also have a personal insight into adjusting to new cultures and expectations of a new life in another country. This can be a difficult transition and having counselling during this adjustment period can really help.
